John L. Waite III was born in Springfield, Missouri and attended Missouri State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1996 with dual majors in Finance and Insurance/Risk Management and a minor in the Reserve Officers' Training Corp program.  Upon graduation, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army National Guard and attended Officer Basic Course at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma as an artillery officer.  Including his time as a cadet, John served eleven years in the military.    John subsequently obtained his MBA from Missouri State University in 1999 while working in the securities industry as a portfolio administrator with State Street Bank in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 2000, both John and his wife, Carlia, applied to and were accepted into law school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.  John worked full time as a securities trader with M&I Global Securities Lending while attending law school in the evenings.  After graduating law school in 2003, he accepted a judicial clerkship with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Nevada.  Following his clerkship, John was offered a position with a national law firm in Kansas City, which he accepted.  Over the next ten years, John's legal experience consisted of a general litigation practice involving real estate transactions, employment law, contract disputes, collections and creditors' rights, bankruptcy, domestic matters, probate disputes, and FINRA/AAA arbitration.  John was also a trained Guardian ad Litem and represented children who were placed in foster care due to neglect and/or abuse suffered at the hands of their parents or other care-givers.

Missing the milder winter weather found in the west, John and Carlia decided to move back to Las Vegas in the Fall of 2015.  John then accepted a position with the Clark County, Nevada District Courts in 2016 as a compliance officer and law clerk with the Probate Department.  Initially, he was tasked with auditing the Probate Court to establish a set of procedures to ensure compliance with applicable statutes and rules, which is currently followed by the Probate Department.  John was instrumental in developing a daily Compliance Report that is used by the Probate Judges/Commissioner and Court Administration to manage the Court's caseload.  As the Probate law clerk, he worked closely with the Commissioner in preparation for the weekly Probate hearing calendar, providing John with a unique opportunity to appreciate the Commissioner's reasoning and process of ruling upon pending cases.  In addition, John was tasked with researching more complicated legal questions presented to the Court, such as trust decanting, conflict of laws involving differing slayer statutes, undue influence under common law and Nevada statute, enforceability of a no-contest clause, and implications of estate creditor claims involving child support obligations.

John has been recognized for his professional accomplishments through his selection as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2013, 2014 and 2015.  John and Carlia have three children ranging in grades from high school to elementary.  In his free time, John likes to volunteer as a coach for the Vegas United Soccer Club.
